The Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) has delivered a leadership development course for 60 Solomon Islands public servants in Honiara, in partnership with the Solomon Islands Ministry of Public Service (MPS).
The course, Building and Leading High Performing Teams by the Australian Public Service Academy, will help managers create and maintain high-performing teams where work is aligned with Solomon Islands Government priorities.
The training forms part of the strengthened cooperation between the MPS and the APSC, as formalised in a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in Canberra in August 2024.
Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Rod Hilton, said Australia is proud to support the capabilities of the Solomon Islands public service.
“Australia recognises that the public service is a vital institution of Solomon Islands, and the new partnership of the Solomon Islands Ministry of Public Service and the Australian Public Service Commission will support the effectiveness of public service.”
The Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Solomon Islands Ministry of Public Service Luke Cheka, said that the training by the Australian Public Service Commission has equipped public servants with the critical leadership skills across all line ministries.
“This training will support the performance of our public servants in delivering high-quality services for Solomon Islands – their roles and responsibilities are essential to the effectiveness of government.”
The work of the Australian Public Service Commission complements Australia’s development partnership with Solomon Islands across all sectors including in governance, justice, and leadership development.
