SOLOMON Islands Government ICT Services Unit (SIG ICTSU) has celebrated the graduation of the Junior Professional Program (JPP)’s second cohort, a SIG-led initiative fully supported by the Solomon Islands-Australia Partnership.
The program is providing a strong and growing pool of talent for the local ICT sector and offers aspiring young ICT professionals opportunities to gain practical skills and industry experience to pursue a career in ICT.
Minister of Finance and Treasury, Manasseh Sogavare congratulated and encouraged the JPP graduates to continue to use their skills and experience to contribute to the success of Solomon Islands.
Australia’s High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, Rod Hilton said Australia has invested SBD1.66 million over two years to fund the JPP.
“The graduates should be proud of their dedication and hard work,” High Commissioner Hilton said.
“They are now role models for other young Solomon Islanders aspiring to enter ICT.”
“Through our partnership with the Government of Solomon Islands, Australia is proud to be leading the creation of career pathways and new job opportunities for young Solomon Islanders.”
The JPP has already seen success, with graduates from the first two cohorts securing employment and continuing their professional development through placements in various organisations, including SIG ICT Services, the Customs Graduate Program, and the Office of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
By the end of 2025, up to 40 young Solomon Islanders are expected to benefit from the program, with at least two more cohorts scheduled for training this year.
The partnership is also supporting SIG to establish a sustainable pathway for the program to continue beyond 2025.
