Dear Editor – Several months ago, I wrote to say that Dr. Chris Miller, a former Health Director in Choiseul Province and whose wife is from Namunga in East Makira, had been requested his father-in-law to build a hospital at Namunga in order to meet the health service needs of people in the Province.
Since that time, the main hospital has been completed, including an inpatient delivery suite theatre.
Phase 2 of the building project, an X-ray wing, is almost complete with just some roofing materials needed to finish the job.
It is understood that a small charity group in Australia, ‘Little Lives.’ will fund the construction of a paediatric ward at the hospital.
Little Lives operates as a small children’s charity which aims to make a significant difference to the health of children across the world.
The charity supports projects, big and small, where donations help to provide the utmost benefit and impact.
The hospital currently serves the communities from Wainoni to Haununu.
In time, Dr Miller is said to be adding a pharmacy and a blood bank facility at the hospital. The TB ward is understood to have already been finished following the provision of flooring.
The Namuga and local East-Makira communities owe much to Dr. Miller and the offer of support by the Australian charity, ‘Little Lives,’ is much appreciated.
Thank you to all!
Yours sincerely
Frank Short
