AUSTRALIAN High Commissioner, Rod Hilton, will visit Makira-Ulawa Province between Monday 12 and Wednesday 14 June, his first visit to the province.
While in Makira-Ulawa Province, Mr Hilton will meet the Premier, Julian Maka’a and other members of the Provincial Government and the Provincial Police Commander.
Mr Hilton also plans to visit the hospital, market and correctional centre in Kirakira and villages outside Kirakira to observe a range of health, education, disaster resilience, water supply and agriculture initiatives that are supported by Australia as part of the Solomon Islands-Australia Partnership.
While in Kirakira, Mr Hilton will also meet with youth representatives and women leaders to ‘tok-stori.’
Mr Hilton said ‘I am looking forward to my first visit to Markira-Ulawa Province. As High Commissioner, I am excited to travel across the Hapi Isles to explore this beautify country and meet its wonderful people.’
“I am looking forward to listening to provincial leaders – from government, youth, women and civil society – and learning about Makira-Ulawa Province,” he added.
Mr Hilton met with the Member of Parliament for Central Makira Constituency and Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources, Nestor Giro, on 9 June, to inform Giro about his upcoming visit to Makira-Ulawa Province.
High Commissioner Hilton will be accompanied by his wife, Ms Ewa Janus and members of the Australian High Commission. High Commissioner Hilton has previously visited Western Province and Malaita Province.
