EAST Central Guadalcanal constituents have received another batch of building materials this week from their Member of Parliament Ishmael Avui.
A statement from Mr Avui on Tuesday said these building materials will be for the highland people of Bubukembe, Nakonga, Sili, Salamarao, Sanalumu, Boloale and Nangali villages in East Central Guadalcanal.
Mr Avui said he is grateful to continue delivering such assistance as this is one of the priority areas in the constituency’s work plan and to improve people’s living conditions.
“Also it is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 11 which targets that by 2030 all people of the world should have a secured house.
“East Central Guadalcanal housing scheme is progressing well to achieve this UN target as people from Aola, Kolokarako, Longgu and Valasi wards have already benefited from the scheme,” he said.
He estimated that by the end of the year he should complete more than 1300 permanent houses for his constituents.
“This would be a historical achievement for a first term Member of Parliament within three years,” Mr Avui said.
He said after the housing project, he will fund small income projects for people who completed their houses.
A Bubukembe villager Paul Sailonga said Mr Avui’s style of leadership is unique from previous MPs because the scheme benefited both his voters as well as non-voters in his constituency.
“I appreciate the priority and commitment given by my MP to housing families because this is where development starts, this is where education and child discipline starts, this is where agriculture production and foreign revenue generation starts,” Mr Sailonga said.
Meanwhile, Mr Avui thanked logging companies operating in the constituency who helped in making the dream of his people come true by providing free transportation of the building materials to the treacherous areas of his constituency.
