A MASSIVE awareness to stop the spread of zika viru, dengue and malaria in Honiara is currently underway in Honiara.
This was revealed by the Director of Health Division within the Honiara City Council (HCC) Harvest Miabule during the handing over of 11,000 ‘Stop Malaria’ posters to HCC Malaria division at HCC yesterday.
Sumitomo Metal Mining donated the posters.
Mr Miabule said, the massive awareness campaign to stop the spread of malaria, dengue and zika virus started last Monday. As part of the campaign HCC health workers have visited communities to raise awareness.
A number of zika cases have been recorded in Honiara since its outbreak.
“At the moment campaign team is taking the awareness program right to the breeding zones where these virus is being recorded,” Mr Miabule said.
During the community visit residents have been told to clean the surrounding of their homes and the breeding place of mosquitoes especially where there is water.
The public had been advised to use mosquito rid and wear long pants and shirts when they are outside.
