Fiji Sun: The Gurjit Singh-coached Suva side and Lautoka lead Fiji premier soccer Pool A and have qualified for the semifinals of the 2014 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants at the ANZ Stadium.
The capital side defeated Navua 1-0 while Lautoka edged Nadroga by the same scoreline at Govind Park on Saturday.
Nadroga and struggling Navua are definitely out of contention after two losses.
But the qualifiers from Pool B will be decided after the three teams Ba, Rewa (one in and a draw) and Nadi which registered its first three points after defeating Labasa 2-1 in a thrilling encounter Sunday.
Sixteen-time defending champions Ba will go into the third and final pool match against Labasa in a do-or-die situation after the scoreless draw against Rewa.
And Rewa will have to draw or beat Nadi to progress.
Ba FA secretary Ilyaz Khan said: “Rewa was a good team but we have to improve on some of our tactical moves.”
Rewa coach Marika Rodu said: “Ba has their strength with five men so we opted to counter them with a six men in midfield and it has worked well for us.
He said his players also locked down Ba’s playmaker Avinesh Suwamy for the full 90 minutes.
“We have to work on our finishing.”
