The new jumbo bus service operated by Ropiko Enterprise got to an unfortunate start yesterday morning after the service was blocked and one of the bus conductors being bashed up.
Reports reaching the paper said despite the service being acknowledged by many members of the public, it does not go down well with few of the bus conductors and drivers.
As a result the service had to be suspended after one of the bus conductors was allegedly bashed up.
It was further revealed that a group of bus drivers and conductors ordered the driver of one of the buses operating between Airport Motel and Honiara City Council not to extend its service further up to Airport Motel.
Roland Piko, the operator of the new jumbo bus service said the two buses have started off the service yesterday morning which ended up with one of his bus conductors being bashed up.
“Yesterday one of my buses which operates between Honiara city council (HCC) and Airport motel had its bus conductor being bashed up by a group of bus conductors and drivers.
“Also the bus was ordered to stop its service at the market area near the Lunga bridge instead of going further up to theAirport motel,’”Mr Piko said.
Mr Piko also said people were also complaining about the bus bay saying the bus should operate along the main road rather than stopping at the HCC bus bay.
“This is just a trial but I would improve the service later.”
Mr Piko said after assessing the service yesterday the two buses cannot cater for the demand and he would needtwo more additional jumbo buses.
“Therefore if things work out well I would order two more new buses soon to solve the problem,” he said.
