A BAIL application will be made today for the bus driver accused of hitting an elderly woman who was crossing the Kukum Highway, Honiara, last year.
Patrick Maetalulu is facing trial for one count of Causing Death by Reckless Driving.
His matter has been listed for today before Principal Magistrate, Leonard Chite, for a bail application.
Maetalulu was charged in connection to the fatal accident along the Kukum Highway, opposite the Saint Barnabas Cathedral, on 11 October 2022.
Maetalulu was allegedly travelling on the outer lane in the westerly direction when he suddenly hit the pedestrian.
The woman in her 60’s was crossing the road in the same direction Maetalulu’s bus was travelling.
Maetalulu with the help of a few bystanders carried the woman into the bus and rushed her to the National Referral Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
