THE Mataniko bailey bridge will open today for public use after constructors completed the temporary bridge yesterday.

Acting Development Counsellor of the New Zealand High Commission in Honiara Barbara Williams and First Secretary Development Luke Kiddle yesterday visited and inspected the facility.

The ferry service, which saw the use of an fibre-glass boat and a rafter, had been used widely by those cross the river at a price of $2.
The temporary bridge will be there until a new two-lane bridge is built by the Japanese government.
A brief opening ceremony will be held today.
