Ballot papers for Aoke Langalanga constituency in Malaita were found to have been misprinted.
Returning Officer for Aoke Langalanga Charles Kaula said they discovered this when unpacking the kits for the constituency.
He said candidate David Faradatolo’s symbol which is the Democratic Alliance Party insignia instead carried the symbol of United Democratic Party.
Faradatolo should be labeled with Democratic Alliance Party symbol imprinted with a bush knife with fading light orange colors in the background.
Instead it carried United Democratic Party which is a Seagull with golden background.
“The tender and official ballots altogether were misprinted,” Kaula said.
He said he had referred the matter back to the Electoral Office in Honiara.
“They advised me to lock the kit containing the misprinted ballots while reprinting is carried out,” Kaula said.
“For now I have to wait earnestly for the ballots since minor task needs to be done like labelling of serial numbers and training of polling agents.
“I will ensure that reprinting is done as soon as possible and sent over before constituents go to the polls on November 19.”
Fredie Bosoboe of the Electoral Office in Honiara said they already receive reports of the misprinting.
“We are currently making a reprint to be sent to Auki as soon as they are done,” he said.
Pacific Printers in Honiara have been contracted to do the job.
Meanwhile, Malaita electoral director Filiramo Ganita said all election kits have been sent to respective constituencies.
Aoke Langalanga constituency recorded more than 6,000 registered voters.
Seven candidates are contesting the constituency.
