Its between Maepio or Talasasa for Western premier
The Western Provincial Assembly will be electing the province’s new premier this morning.
And its between former deputy premier Wayne Maepioh up against outspoken provincial member for Nusa Roviana Ramrakha Talasasa.
Before lunch time today, the province will know who will lead the province.
Most of the provincial members are in Gizo as of yesterday for the election this morning.
Former premier Robert Pye Kuve traveled to Gizo yesterday to be part of the election and is expected to return to Honiara after the event.
The election follows the resignation of Mr Kuve due to health issues.
In the months leading up to this day, heated debates have been released in the media as backbenchers questioned executive members of their credibility as a functioning government body amongst many other things.
But even under the media heat the former deputy premier Mr Maepio provincial member for Gatokae stood his ground by challenging the query.
Throughout the months that past as critics were thrown back and forth, the people of the western province listened and watched closely at the uncertainty of their government’s stability and unity.
When the news of the Premier resigning from his leadership role was made public, it ignited an interest by the public to which path the elected constitutional leaders will now take them.
The spokesperson for the Coalition for Rural Advancement and Change (CRAC) said that they commended Mr Kuve for stepping down as the premier and said that it is time that CRAC sets the record straight and hopes that members of the assembly will be able to see this and be part of the change intended.
Hon. Talasasa said he is aware of the concerns being stressed by the people of Western province of how issues and debates have been dealt in the past months and asks everyone to be calm and trust that the steps taken and to be taken are for the betterment of Western province and its people.
