“Be faithful witness, by loving God and loving your neighbour,” Archbishop Adrian Smith sm, strongly emphasised this during the Confirmation Eucharistic Celebration in the Holy Family parish – Kukum. Forty two candidates were confirmed by his Grace on the 15th November, 2015.
The entrance procession was led by the dancing group from Burn’s Creek Catholic local church. They were also the main group to lead the liturgy. Archbishop welcomed and thanked all the candidates for taking this step in their faith to become fully members of the Catholic Church.
The Archbishop anointed each candidate with the chrism oil on their foreheads. He was assisted by Fr. Pius To’omae, parish priest and Deacon Dr. James Ereai. Godparents accompanied their sponsored candidate to be confirmed to the Archbishop.
They put their hands on the shoulders of those being confirmed as a sign of their full support for on their faith journey. Archbishop confirmed everyone with these words, “…Be sealed with the Holy Spirit, the gift of the Father and peace be with you.”
In his sermon, he constantly reminded the candidates to keep away from alcohol and marijuana.
“My beautiful girls and boys, women and men your parents don’t want to see you consume alcohol. It can ruin your life. Follow the spirit of right judgment and courage.”
He also encouraged the congregation to pray for the young people so their faith must be strong and be great ambassadors of God in spreading the Good news.
Meanwhile, Mrs Lisa, one of the parents expressed her joy saying, “I am so happy to see my son confirm today. Nowadays it is very challenging to keep our children away from bad influences unless the community works together.
The celebration continued with the presentation of certificates and rosary presented by Archbishop Smith and Fr. Pius. The confirmation celebration ended with a shared meal and entertainments.
