THE Malaita Eagles Beach Soccer team has maintained their winning streak on day four of the Solomon Games beach soccer competition.
Beach Eagles narrowly defeated hosts team Honiara 5-4 in an electrifying match of the day on Friday.
The top favourites, Beach Eagles took the lead few minutes from the opening actions of the first quarter. But just before both teams went for a break Honiara, neutralised the score.
Equipped with well built players, Eagles looked sharp and kept hammering Honiara’s goal mouth with shots from all corners of the pitch.
It paid off when they then doubled their lead to 2 before Honiara pulled a goal back to reduce the margin, before the second quarter ended.
The final quarter unveiled more entertaining action as the two sides look to bag the points.
But it was Eagles who proved their supremacy by adding another three goals while Honiara only manage to add two goals in the final quarter, leaving the final score at 5-4.
Meanwhile in the first match yesterday Western Kikio bounced back from their earlier loss to Beach Eagles and thrashed Lauru Kuvojo 7-2, while Guadalcanal also defeated Renbel 7-5.
Today’s action will feature final pool games of the competition.
Renbel will take on Malaita in the opening match at 9 am, followed by Western and Guadalcanal at 10 am, and the final match between Lauru and Honiara at 11 am.
Mala beach Eagle is leading the competition after day four with 12 points, followed by Western with 9 points, Honiara and Guadalcanal 6 points each, Lauru 3 points while Rebel is yet to register a point.
