A GOOD number of beachgoers have reportedly got sick from jelly fish bite after swimming at beaches situated along West of Honiara.
Over the past weeks, many families from the city have been visiting the beaches to celebrate Christmas and welcome the New Year.
And in most cases, young children spent hours swimming in the seas.
However, it was reported upon returning home, many young swimmers and even adults experienced itchiness on their bodies.
Some of them could not sleep at night and continued to scratch their bodies, resulting in swollen bodies.
Some used local remedies to ease their itchiness, while others were forced visit the clinics and hospital to be jabbed.
One of the parents told Solomon Star that the months of December and January are always the season for jelly fish to surface along the beaches.
In most cases, young children are always vulnerable to the jelly fish bites.
This has been the case for years and parents have been warned to take extra care and always go for a beach that is clean.
“This is because schools of jelly fish are normally present at beaches that are not clean,” a father warned.
