SOLOMON Islands tennis player, Junior Benjamin is eyeing his fifth tennis title for this year as he enters the Tattslotto Fiji Open Tennis Championship title which is currently underway at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club in Nadi, Fiji.
A statement from Fiji Times confirmed Junior Benjamin is the top seed in the men’s open singles category for the Tattslotto Fiji Open Tennis Championship.
The Tattslotto Fiji Open Tennis Championship is one of the tennis competitions Benjamin has not won despite reaching the finals in his previous participations and is more determined to do so this time round.
Benjamin however admitted winning the title will not come easy as there are also tough competitors in the tournament.
“I’ve never won this competition despite reaching the finals so this time I am aiming to win.
“It will be tough; there are some top players in the tournament so I have to stay focus to achieve my goal,” he said.
Benjamin enters the tournament on a high having won four titles already.
He won the first two editions of the Fiji National Championship series, a tournament in Nadi and also the Consumers Supermarket Easter Open Championship in Lautoka defeating Storm Conish in the final.
Benjamin is also using these tournaments as his preparations for the Pacific Games in Honiara next year.
He said participating in tournaments like this is what all our athletes need, to have more competition, more game time and more exposure.
After this tournament, Benjamin will compete in his first competition outside of Fiji, the Pacific Mini Games in Saipan, Northern Marianna next month.
