Betikama Adventist College (BAC) one of the National Secondary Schools (NSS) in the country will celebrate its 70th Anniversary this weekend.
The program will kick start this afternoon at the school compound along the Lungga river in Honiara and will conclude on Sunday afternoon.
A statement from the organising committee said there will be a lot of interesting segments to this event which is worth attending.
“Betikama is known for music and singing, so most musical presentations will be done by various student singing groups and the BAC school choir,” the statement said.
A good number of dignitaries from the Government, Parliamentarians, and leaders of educational stakeholders have been invited including leaders of various high schools in Honiara.
The welcome and opening ceremony will be hosted by the staff and students of the school. They will display the three periods of the school since its inception.
The Missionary School era, the High School era and now the College era.
The statement said this ceremony is worth watching and will be recorded and broadcasted later over the national radio so that former students in the Provinces can feel part of the program.
“Betikama started as a Missionary School soon after the war in 1948. Until the demand for secondary school and improved learning by the colonial masters, it changed into a high school in 1970.
“Again with the introduction of Form VII and integration of high school curriculum standardisation in the Pacific, it changed its name and program to Betikama Adventist College in the late 1990’s,” the statement said.
The Committee is inviting all ex staff and students, families and friends of the school who are working and residing in and around Honiara to come in numbers for the opening program this afternoon.
“If possible those working are asked to leave work at lunch time and be at the school by 4:00PM for the program to start by 5pm,” the statement said.
