Dear Editor – As concern Malaita chiefs, leaders and resource owners of Malaita who have much concern over the Malaita Project which remains stagnant at the moment, we would like to thank first of all the DCC Government for its initiatives and plans on those projects.
Secondly, for mandating the Think Tank group to do assessments on those projects, on how and why these projects still remain stagnant.
Therefore hopefully the Tink Tank group had discovered the unseen hidden customary land settlement role model which for many years since our country gained independence, overlooked by previous governments.
Today, we would like to thank the Tink Tank group for their great assessment on how Malaita Project which had already been registered but yet to progress. We hope the group had discovered the mess.
As concern Malaitans, we thank Tink Tank for the model they have designed; we support the model because the model although yet to be adopted was a homegrown model and an original customary land settlement model.
It shows that land matters can be dealt with by chiefs according to custom and that the original customary land laws and tenure be recognized in the government system and provincial ordinances.
Therefore in support of these recording model, we chiefs, leaders, resource owners and people of Malaita put our support behind the Tink Tank.
We also call on the National Government as this is very urgent to settle all land matters on Malaita inorder for development programs to occur.
We hope this is a way forward for peaceful and lasting development on Malaita and other provinces as well.
We believe that only through settling land in custom can true resolutions be made to pave way for developments.
