BEULAH Secondary School in Western Province has isolated itself from claims of its involvement in causing the contamination of the school water dam.
Speaking to Solomon Star Gizo, a teacher at Beulah Secondary School said the school had nothing to do with the contamination of the water dam.
The school was responding to claims by Alekoti Alevangana who claimed in the media recently of the school’s involvement with a logging company whose operation had caused the contamination of the water supply to the school.
The contamination of the water source has forced the school to suspend all classes.
The school said what the school is doing now is working at a new water source for the school.
“We took matters into our own hands and construct a new dam for the school using old pipeline materials to address the water supply issue,” the concerned teacher said.
He said this is an indication of teachers and staff commitment to the welfare of students and the school community.
“It is important to note that, following the public report on the contamination of water and the alleged involvement of the logging company, forestry took action and temporarily suspended the company’s licenses. However, in light of the clarification made by the school staff regarding the situation, forestry has lifted the suspension and allowed the company to operate again,” the concerned teacher said.
To ensure the safety of the water source, the Western Provincial Education CEO and Environmental Officer have also taken water samples for testing.
They aim to ascertain the water source’s suitability for human consumption, and the school is eagerly awaiting the results of these tests at the moment.
The Beulah School administration and staff have expressed their frustration over the misinformation presented by Mr. Alevangana and have stressed the importance of accurate reporting and accountability.
They said school remains focused on providing a safe and conducive learning environment for its students and is dedicated to resolving any issues that may arise proactively.
Meanwhile Beulah School is likely to resume its classes by next week.
