PERMANENT Secretary (PS) for the Ministry of Lands, Housing & Survey Stanley Wale has reminded the public to be careful of conmen.
He said certain conmen are going around with false land title documents and deceiving people to pay cash for their land title transfer.
Speaking during the Public Accounts Committee hearing, Mr Wale said these conmen forged documents containing stamps, letterhead and signature of the Commissioner of lands.
He said the public must not fall into the trap of these people.
He added a number of victims have shown up in their office and were told the documents were faked.
“But that’s after they’ve already paid cash to these conmen,” he said.
Mr Wale said anyone who encountered this kind of people must call into the office first to verify the documents before making any transaction.
He said one woman who called into their office admitted losing her life-saving to one conman.
“We want to remind the public to call into the Ministry of Lands, Housing & Survey and check for those land documents before dealing with such people,” he said.
