THE MAKIRA/ULAWA provincial contingent for the 2016 Solomon Games has received a boost of shared assistance from their Members of Parliament (MPs) this week.
Reports reaching Star Sports confirmed that, the three MPs for Makira/Ulawa Province have donated a total sum of $50,000.00 to the Honiara Based Makira/ Ulawa fund raising committee.
“East Makira MP, Alfred Ghiro has donated $20,000.00, Central Makira MP Nestor Giro donated $10,000.00, and Derrick Manuari, MP West Makira Constituency donated $20,000.00 cash prizes altogether.
“The money was handed over to the treasurer of the Honiara Based Committee –Mrs Schola Aitora and was witnessed by the Chairlady of the Honiara Based Committee Mrs Clara Rebi.
“This money is part of their constituencies fund put into the development of youth and sport and particularly for this year’s event to enable Makira/Ulawa teams participating in the Solomon Islands Games,” a statement received yesterday stated.
Upon receiving the money, Rebi extended her sincere gratitude to the three MPs.
“Makira/Ulawa Province can be super sport stars for Solomon Islands should such recognition from our Makira PMs.
“The support shown by our three MPs towards sports will expose the hidden talent and at the same time too, raise the standard in various sports the youths are interested in.”
She also assured everybody, that the money will be well accounted for its purpose, mainly to finance the priority necessities or any short falls of the Makira /Ulawa Province teams.
Meanwhile, part of the money has been committed to sports uniform already.
