Dear Editor – These comments are in relation to the front page photograph over the above heading in Star Issue No.5795 of Friday 17/04/’15.
The image is one of our Prime Minister (of a sovereign Solomon Islands) appearing to be quashed up by foreign economic and financial giants.
Why are business people especially from China and south east Asia always allowed to ‘curtsey’ call on our Prime Ministers and or our Ministers of the Crown?
I don’t believe the situation is reciprocated by these countries.
Why should we keep on doing it? For one thing it makes us look cheap.
For another, might lead to suspicions of compromising.
It might also lead to the weakening of political decisions which may need to be tough on related matters which may ensue.
We may be desperate for investment by foreigners. But we need to maintain proper perspective on things.
The last thing we want is to allow the integrity and dignity of our noble offices to be questioned and belittled in anyway.
