BAUXITE miner Bintan Mining Company (BMC) has been accused of meddling in the Renbel domestic politics as a new executive awaits to be formed.
Bintan currently operates the bauxite mine on the island of Rennell.
Provincial Assembly Member (MPA) for Mugihenua Ward on Rennell Island Dorry Tuhaika in a statement claimed he was offered $200,000 and a hilux by Bintan general manager Fred Tang to switch allegiance in their bid to form an executive of their liking.
He claimed the alleged bribe offer took place at Bintan’s office at Hyundai Mall last Thursday evening.
Tuhaika said he decided to go public with his story because he will not tolerate dirty politics orchestrated by doggy businesses operating in the province.
Tang could not be reached for comments yesterday. But comments are being sought from his office.
Meanwhile, members of the 10-member Provincial Assembly took their oaths yesterday in Honiara ahead of the premier’s election to take place at Tigoa Provincial headquarters at a date to be finalised.
A group of members camping at the Honiara Hotel, led by veteran MPA Lance Tango of West Tegano and his frontman MPA for Kanaba Ward on Rennell, Eric Saueha are in strong contention to form the next executive.
Renbel Provincial Assembly elections was delayed by two weeks because of logistic issues and was finally held on June 26th.
