Media outburst has warned international shipping companies, which have ships operating and coming to our islands to be more conscious, thus calling on their owners or agents in the Solomon Islands to be more vigilant and proactive in their approach to contain this deadly disease from entering the country.
Coronavirus has now spread throughout many countries in the world, including neighbours Australia and New Zealand which has caused great concern amongst our people and political leaders.
Bintan Mining SI Limited is also very concerned about this disease and is actively educating our workers and communities about this virus and measures to be taken should it reaches our shores.
We have also informed and is liaising with our Agent, the shipping Company to take precautionary measures by ensuring all employees on board the vessels are quarantined, checked and cleared before departing to Solomon Islands.
Two months ago, Bintan Mining SI Limited demonstrated its courage, shown as the best corporate citizenship by declaring the suspected case to the Government Health authorities which were later cleared of coronavirus.
The company had shown responsive leadership by halting loading operation and immediately isolate and quarantined all known stevedores & local crews that had contact with the four suspected ship crew, a brave action which is being commended and applauded by local people of the province.
