Bmobile/Vodafone company is expected to increase its mobile coverage network by April this year once more towers are built around the country as part of the company’s expansion plan.
The company’s chief executive officer (CEO) Niall Downey said, they have received 16 firms who have shown their interest to carry out civil works for the construction of the new towers.
He was unable to reveal how many towers will be built this year.
“The construction work will involve building of towers for their 3G rollout giving the provinces access to the fastest 3G speeds in rural communities.
“This will give the provinces similar 3G data speeds that Honiara has currently enjoys.”
He said, this new construction phase will also include providing further expansion into Guadalcanal outside of Honiara town.
Mr Downey added, its important as a foreign investor to help stimulate the local economy and has strong confidence in the support by local companies to build the towers to meet the Bmobile/Vodafone global standards.
He said, once this rollout is completed and comes on in April 2015 Bmobile/Vodafone will double its 3G coverage by providing the largest mobile data services in the Solomons.
Huawei vendor will be supporting this rollout program this year over the coming months.
“This will also include further training for Bmobile/Vodafone technical staff to ensure the network capabilities are fully utilised.”
