MEMBER of Parliament (MP) for North West Guadalcanal, Bodo Detke has come out publicly for the first time to speak out against a failed attempted murder incident 20 years ago, involving Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.
The allegation was confessed by former member of the defunct Malaita Eagle Force (MEF), Moses Su’u.
Mr. Su’u made the revelation in a video that went viral on social media, accusing Mr. Sogavare of ordering him and his men to abduct Detke and former MP from Guadalcanal late John Garo in year 2000, at the height of the ethnic tension.
The allegation resurfaced following the mudslinging between the PM and Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition group, Matthew Wale in the recent motion of no confidence in parliament.
Prime Minister Sogavare even went as far as informing parliament of the incident that happened two decades ago.
Bodo could not confront the pressure exerted on him following the recent unsuccessful Motion of No Confidence against the PM.
He however said the fact of the abduction has now admitted by the PM in parliament.
In a paid media statement in the Island Sun newspaper, Detke revealed him and Garo were taken to the office of the Leader of Opposition at Vavaya Ridge.
Sogavare was the leader of the parliamentary opposition then.
Detke said the motive behind the abduction is unknown but he reserve the right not to speak on this, considering the safety of his family, himself and that of his business, until the right time to reveal everything.
The MP however thanked the spokesperson for Malaita Eagle Force (MEF) late Andrew Nori who intercepted at the right time to save his life from the abductors.
He also thanked Moses Su’u for not executing the next stage of the plot to kill him and late John Garo.
“I thanked Moses Su’u for his humility to confess to me personally about the plot,” concluded Detke in his statement.
But Prime Minister this week denied the allegation of attempt to murder the two Guadalcanal leaders.
PM said he in fact save the lives of the two (Detke & Garo) whom were brought into his office by militants to be executed.
