A man in his 50s has been found dead on Friday night the Florence Young School junction at Kukum, east Honiara.
He was from Malaita.
The Sunday Star was told the elderly man had been selling fish and chips earlier that night along the Kukum Highway to night club goers.
“He was on his way home when he met his fate,” one resident in the area said.
“He was a widower, who visited Honiara regular to see his children who worked in town,” the resident added.
Police confirmed the death last Saturday. A case has been opened.
An officer spoken to said at this time, they are treating the case as a homicide.
“We are not sure whether he was attacked on his way home,” the officer said.
“This will be only determined after a post mortem,” he added.
A spokesman for the National Referral Hospital said a post mortem is likely to be carried out on Monday.
The police officer spoken to said hospital authorities were informed of the dead man and the need to have a post mortem.
He said there are scratches on the body of the deceased that are of interest to the police.
