BOKOLONGA primary school in South West Gela, Central Province successfully staged its annual graduation ceremony over the weekend.
This year’s graduation was the third to be held by the school, since it’s establishment in 1988.
It was a colourful celebration with hundreds of students being part of the closing day, which featured 14 grade six students and 11 Early Childhood Education (ECE) students.
They all received their certificate of completion and academic prizes.
The event also coincided with a prize-giving day for students from grade one to five.
Some of the students received prizes for doing well in sports, well dressed, good behaviour, good attendance and for best overall performing students in class.
The theme of the graduation was; ‘Empowering Community for Quality Education.’
School head teacher Stanley Kara in his opening address acknowledged the community and parents for their support and working together with the school administration and teachers this year.
He said although the school does not have enough teachers this year, they were happy to complete the year successfully.
“Because of the hardworking teachers and community, the school was able to see some improvements in the school operations and academic performances.”
He therefore thanked community chiefs, church elders and everyone for their support this year and being part of the graduation ceremony
Mr Kara appealed to his staff members to keep up their good work next year, even if they move to another school next year.
Speaking on behalf of the community and the school board Hon. David K Teva encouraged the students to maintain their good behaviour and standard of learning when they continue next year.
He said it’s important to teach the students to develop good behaviours for their own benefit and to learn as much from their teachers.
Mr Teva also appealed to communities to support the school administration, so that the school can be developed to a standard, which can provide a conductive learning for the students.
He also took time to congratulate the graduating students.
A student rep, James Legaitahi, speaking on behalf of the students thanked the school administration and the teachers for their hard work, commitment and support throughout the year.
He also thanked the parents and guardians for their support through school fees to ensure they were able to complete their year successfully.
“Without your support we would not complete with our education this year.
“To the teachers, without your commitment and dedication, we would not be able to complete our studies as well.”
The occasion was also attended by Inspector Education Authority Central Province John Fredric Mara, Chiefs, community leaders and elders.
The program featured entertainment and concluded with feasting.
