SOLOMON Islands international Michael Boso has been recalled to the Men’s National Soccer Team for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Oceania qualifiers against PNG and New Caledonia this week in Papua New Guinea.
This was confirmed by the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) after the Solomon Islands Men’s National Soccer Team Head Coach Josh Smith announced the final 23-men squad for the two final group A matches against PNG and New Caledonia.
Boso made his return to the famous yellow and blue colour after 6 solid years due to his football commitments abroad.
The return of this formidable defender is poised to restore valuable experience to the backline.
Michael Boso told Star Sports in an interview that he was very happy to be recalled to the national team.
Boso played for the Palmerston North Marist Football Club in New Zealand before signing for Hamilton Wanderers FC recently where he was picked up by Head Coach Smith.
“Honestly, I am very happy to be back with the national team. It’s always a great feeling to represent my country and this return is very special for me after a six years absence,” Boso said.
Boso said with his return, he aims to impress the national side by helping them to qualify for the next phase of FIFA World Cup 2026 Oceania qualification by early next year.
“Just same as the whole team, we are aiming to qualify for the next stage which means to win our two remaining matches. I understand that our goal will never change as we aim for a win.
“We have to be very strong, stay together and fight because we believe in our collaborative resilience – that we will bounce back,” he added.
This experienced centre back had stints with Marist FC (OFC Championship), Suva FC, Miramar, Laugu FC and Isabel United FC years back and was even selected for Team Wellington to attend the FIFA Club World Cup in 2018.
He is a well-known defender in the Oceania.
