THE man accused of cutting a young man to death with a bush knife early hours on Boxing Day at Borderline area, East Honiara will appear in court today.
Eddie Miti Naibae, 47, who faces one count of murder, will today update the court if he already has a lawyer or if he had made a request for one to the Public Solicitor’s Office.
Today would be his first appearance after he was remanded on the last court date.
Nabae was accused of the murder of 27 year-old Steven Fifi’I at the Kobito 3 area, Honiara on Boxing Day, 26 December 2022.
Fifi’i was drinking with his two friends in the early hours on Boxing Day, along the Kobito 3 road, when Naibae approached and asked them for matches.
He and his friends politely told Naibae they did not have any matches but Naibae kept insisting for matches.
Naibae then left and went back to his house.
Not long after he left, he returned with a 78 centimetre bush knife and a torch light.
It was alleged that Naibae walked up to the deceased and his friends and spoke in Kwaio dialect, Mourulo which in pijin means, Iufala na ya?
He then allegedly raised his hand and struck the deceased on his left neck with the bush knife.
The deceased then fell on to the ground.
The deceased’s two friends having feared for their lives escaped the scene and stood at a nearby location and watched.
Naibae then left, leaving the deceased lying lifeless on the ground.
Fifi’i was rushed to the National Referral Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
