A 12- YEAR boy from Moli, Choiseul Province is counting his blessing after he survived a crocodile attack, which left him with serious wounds to his right leg.
The boy has since been flown to the National Referral Hospital, where he is recovering.
The younger boy was reportedly saved by his 14-year-old brother from the attack which happened about two weeks ago, according to reports from the Choiseul Provincial government.
Choiseul Province’s Deputy Premier, Nerio Ulemiki told Solomon Star yesterday the injured boy was recovering at the National Referral Hospital after he was referred there by Taro Hospital a week ago.
Mr. Ulemiki said a group of young boys were swimming at the Wangamoli River at the time.
He said the crocodile was apparently floating beneath a new Provincial Constituency Development Fund (PCDF) bridge when it snatched the boy’s right leg.
‘’All of a sudden the boys started to escape the scene, except the injured boy’s 14 year-old brother who came to the rescue.
‘’The fight that ensued forced the crocodile to leave the scene but it was only after the 12-year old had suffered serious wounds to his leg,” the deputy provincial secretary said.
Mr. Ulemiki has appealed to police to intervene as residents have made several sightings of crocodiles in the area.
He also appealed to people living in the Wangamoli area to take extra care when swimming in the river.
