Warriors, Marist win opening matches
By CARLOS ARUAFU
Oceania Champions League representatives Solomon Warriors FC and Marist FC made positive starts to their Telekom S-league (TSL) Championship campaign on Saturday at Lawson Tama.
Both teams registered a win each in their opening matches.
Warriors kicked off the day’s action with an impressive 5-0 win over Real Kakamora FC.
Having the advantage of being fresh from the Oceania Champions League group matches, Warriors did not find it tough against Kakamora as they eased their way through to get their first three points.
Equipped with two of their provincial based players who were part of their campaign in the TSL season, Real Kakamora made a series of good runs upfront but obviously lacked proper finishing.
Yesterday’s second match was, to an extent, equally contested, however Marist’s consistency throughout the 90 minutes of play paid off against a fancy FC Guadalcanal side.
Marist’s two goals were scored by their veteran Abraham Iniga – one in each half.
FC Guadalcanal could have made a difference in the score-line however, similar to that of Kakamora in the first match, lacked proper finishing despite some good combination upfront by Kurukuru trio Coleman Makau, Lenson Bisili and Alvin Hou.
Meanwhile, matches will continue today.
KOSSA will take on Western United at 2pm followed by Malaita Kingz FC and Henderson Eels at 4pm.
