Bank South Pacific (BSP) has launched its 33rd Branchless agent in Santa Ana, Makira Province last Friday.
The newly established branchless banking agency is based at Waikaru Retail Store at Gupuna Village and will serve the people of Santa Ana and Santa Catalina.
With the new service, it means the locals can access BSP basic banking services including withdrawals, deposits and opening of personal account.
The launching was attended by good number of men, women, children church leader chiefs, elders and Makira Provincial Member for ward 15.
George Gapiara, on behalf of the people and Makira/Ulawa Provincial government thanked and congratulated the BSP Management and BSP Waikaru Agent for the partnership to bring down the service to the people of the two islands.
“This means that BSP has demonstrated its vision and mission in its aim to deliver the banking services to the rural communities and the Makira provincial govt is in full support of such development taking place in the communities.”
He told the gathering that they are the beneficiaries of this service and the agency is the service provider, therefore everyone must grow in a sense of ownership of this service in order to fully enjoy its benefits.
A chief Albert Wata said, in the past canoes went missing and lives were lost at sea when people travel to Kirakira by outboard motor to do banking business.
“Today the service is now made easier, convenient and cheaper and it will greatly assist individuals to save money for their families, parents to send school fees to their children, school teachers to spend more time attending classes, local business to grow and visitors or tourists to access their money at any time,” chief Wata said.
“We are fortunate to have this banking service available to us so we must make use of it.”
He also commended Our Telekom for providing the coverage which enables BSP bank to reach down to the people of Santa Ana and Santa Catalina.
