BANK South Pacific (BSP) customers nationwide, including Western Province, have been affected by a technical fault denying hundreds of its customers from withdrawing cash from the ATMs over the past days.
The problem occurred on Thursday night which caused inconvenience to many BSP customers in the province who travelled to Gizo on Friday.
Many have been forced to go inside the bank to manually withdraw cash from the tellers.
Western Provincial capital of Gizo has two ATMs and none of them have been operational to disperse cash since Thursday night and throughout the weekend.
On Friday, many customers who travelled to Gizo with their relatives’ ATM cards could not get cash.
Only those who were able to join the queue inside the bank were able to get cash on Friday. Others who depend on their ATM cards to get cash were affected.
A check by this paper on Sunday morning at the Gizo branch ATMs revealed the situation remains the same.
Although there is cash inside the ATMs, the fault denied the machines to disperse cash.
A bank officer told the paper the technical fault came about due to upgrading work done by their head office in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG) which affected all BSP ATMs nation-wide.
“Due to technical problems with customers, the ATMs could not disperse cash although there is cash inside the ATMs,” the officer explained.
Many customers were unable to access cash over the past two days, causing so much frustration.
Others have been forced to use EFPTOS machines inside some of the shops to do their shopping.
Services for most of the ATMs in Honiara were restored over the weekend, while for those in the provinces, the service was still there as of yesterday due to limited connections.
The officer assured customers in the Western Province that the service is expected to be restored by late Sunday or Monday morning.
