A MAN who stole valuable properties from a house at Tasahe in West Honiara in May this year has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Rodney Ramo Adam, 25, was sentenced yesterday in the Honiara Magistrate Court on the charge of Burglary, which he pleaded guilty to.
Chief Magistrate Emma Garo, when imposing the sentence, ordered the sentence to be backdated to when Adam was first taken into custody on remand.
The incident occurred on the night of 14 May this year.
Adam and another person met at the Botanical Garden in Honiara and drunk some beers on 13 May.
After drinking their beers, they went up to Tasahe.
At around 12 midnight on 14 May, a man named Glennon went back to his home at Tasahe Solomon Power area by taxi and he saw someone carrying a bag outside of his house.
Mr Glennon then asked the person who he was with and the person told Mr Glennon that he followed another person, referring to the defendant Adam.
The person then led Mr Glennon towards the complainant’s house.
There, they saw the defendant Adam sitting down at the ladder of the complainant’s house.
When Adam saw Glennon and the other person walking towards him, he ran away instantly carrying a bag.
At that time the complainant and his wife were asleep.
Mr Glennon shouted behind Adam and the complainant heard him and came out of his house.
The complainant and Mr Glennon then searched the bag carried by the other person and they found few clothes belonging to Mr Glennon and their neighbors.
The complainant and his wife went inside their house and confirmed that Adam entered their house and stole a bag pack containing a laptop, a black certificate holder containing a scholarship agreement and school certificate, a cable charger, cash of $1,300, two driving licence, two NPF cards, the complainant’s wife’s purse containing $650, the complainant’s work ID and two flash drives worth $400.
It has been heard that the complainant recovered the laptop from the person who purchased it from Adam and that all his documents such as financial assets revolution and full project report had been erased.
The complainant had worked on the documents since he started work in 2014.
