Outspoken pastor and chief of Burns Creek in East Honiara appeals to community leaders to unite and do more to reduce criminal activities in their community.
Pastor Seti Iromea said it is sad to see some of their leaders are part of the recent riot in east Honiara.
Pr Iromea said leaders within Burns Creek must work together to lead by example and not to initiate activities that will only cause problems to innocent lives.
“I urge leaders and people of Burns Creek to work together for a better community. We had enough problems. MPs and civil society groups too need to speak up against such bad attitude of certain leaders and youths,” Pr Iromea said.
He said whilst he commended the police for their tireless effort in keeping the communities safe, it is leaders who should be doing more to ensure youths are stopped from involving in criminal activities.
He stressed that communities including business houses are innocent of issues affecting everyone and they should not be victimized.
“It is shameful act to see certain leaders of Burns Creek lead youths to do the wrong thing. It is our duty to work together for the betterment of our communities. If we continue to act this way, we will go nowhere. And by the end of the day we will still call on the government for help,” Pr Iromea added.
He said whilst some of them are trying to act as the good guys to secure and protect the city and community from such bad act, others are doing the opposite.
He said leaders should not be giving bad advices to people, instead give what will add value to their lives.
Pr Iromea also stressed that people should not be blaming the Prime Minister of corruption, because all along the word corruption has also been labelled against the country’s past PMs.
“I don’t believe in corruption unless people prove it otherwise. We say the PM is corrupt but why hasn’t he jailed for that label?
“So it is better that we people stop accusing each other but work to support the government and leaders to ensure, peace, happiness and good living for all. By then when we seek assistance, it will come. But not with hidden motives that will only cause problems for ourselves,” Pr Iromea said.
Meanwhile he calls on all Malaitan MPs and east Honiara MP to assist their people and if possible help to repatriate them or establish projects to benefit them rather than leaving them to stay aimless in town.
“You see most of our people do not have good things to do to survive and as a result they turn to criminal activities.
“It is sad to see my people living their lives like this at Burns Creek and surrounding communities,” Pr Iromea said.
He added that despite the difficulties their community face, he will continue to lead and engage his good team to secure the town and communities and fight to change Burns Creek community to become a better place.
