NOMINATIONS for a new Malaita Premier will open today Wednesday 8 February, says the Malaita Provincial Speaker Ronnie Butala.
Mr Butala announced this on the floor of the provincial assembly yesterday after the ousting of the Malaita Premier Daniel Suidani.
The Speaker said the nomination will open on Wednesday and close on Friday, adding that interested candidates to contest for the Premier’s post should be nominated within this time-frame.
Following the nomination period, the Malaita Full Assembly should meet to elect a new Premier for Malaita Province.
By the look of things, a new candidate will come from Martin Fini’s group as they already have the numbers.
If it happens that Mr Fini and his supporters only nominate one candidate for the premiership, they will definitely form the new Malaita Provincial Government.
In the meantime, the people of Malaita will have to wait until the next few days to know their new Premier and new executive government that will run the affairs of the province for the remaining four months of the current provincial assembly’s tenure.
