SHADRACK FISANGO – the newly-elected Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Ward 17 on Malaita – has called on the Member of Parliament (MP) for East Kwaio Stanley Festus Sofu to step down immediately, saying his condition calls for such an action.
Fisango, pictured above, is a blood relative of Hon. Sofu.
“I am calling on him to resign immediately for two main reasons.
“First, his occupation of the East Kwaio seat has contributed to East Kwaio losing face internationally, regionally and domestically. He can no longer represent East Kwaio in discussions with these important players.
“He has never represented East Kwaio in any discussions involving donors, the national government and others. I have obtained information from Caucus and Parliament that he never attended any of their meetings due to his illness.
“East Kwaio Constituency needs to be represented fully in donor meetings, Caucus and Parliament. If he is not attending these meetings, why does he have to remain in there? He must resign immediately,” he said.
The second reason is that, he was toldtold his condition continues to deteriorate.
“We, the people of East Kwaio deserve to be represented fully in all matters,” Hon Fisango said.
Hon Fisango pointed to Hon Sofu’s absence at the 41st Anniversary of the Malaita 2nd Appointed Day in Auki on the 15th of August as an example.
“This is not good enough. He should have been there,” Hon Fisango said.
He is also concerned to learn that he no longer signs legal documents, including payments on behalf of the Constituency.
“I understand that one of his children or a close relative is signing these legal documents. This in itself could be tantamount to forgery, which is a criminal act,” Hon Fisango claimed.
