PEOPLE living at the Borderline vicinity in east Honiara have urged the police to step up its presence in the area.
The call came, following the increasing anti-social behavior at the area – one of the highest populated places in the city.
In an interview, a Borderline resident Rivaldo Lobo reiterated the call to rebuild the Borderline police post.
Mr Lobo, a King George School Senior Security officer suggested, the continuous high incidences of the anti-social behaviors at the area can only be addressed by government and police through strengthening more police presence there.
________Residents around the Borderline area are raising concerns that there are much more anti-social disturbances taking place at the site and thus, the government through the ministry of police must erect a new police post at the site.
“This is to address the current anti-social disturbances which affects men, women and children these days at the Borderline area, which also includes the bus-stop,________ he said.
Mr Lobo said he understands that at the moment, chiefs and community elders at the area are working closely with the surrounding communities to fight against these disturbances but he said police support at the spot is important for the whole course.
________Over the past few weeks, Borderline chiefs and elders held talks with the police to set up a committee in their community to stop these activities and it is also significant for the police to set-up the police post or increase their presence in the area to work with these elders,” he added.
Mr Lobo also appealed on behalf of women, children and men at Borderline for the government through the ministry of police to replace the burnt police post to reduce criminal actions in the area.
“There was once a Police post located at the area but was burned down few years back which have resulted in the continuous increase of anti-social disturbances at Borderline.”
The security officer said, at the moment reports of criminal activities on the area is growing at an alarming rate after the burning of the police post.
