THE general public who were victimised by sneak thieves have called on the police to crack them down.
Many victims are unable to retrieve their property that has been removed from their bags or pockets.
These sneak thieves, bag snatchers and pocket pickers are usually stationed at Honiara Central Market and other parts of the City carrying out their dirty duties.
They usually go for phones, tablets and other valuable things from people’s pockets and bags.
To that extent, these beligas, as was locally known, are armed with small weapons like scissors, screw-drives, pocket knives and mini-weapons to scare people while they catch them.
These beligas are vigilant and well organised when they are on a mission to steal people and shops.
A victim said police need to crack down on them before many people will fall victim to their barbaric duties.
This issue is an overdue issue.
The Honiara Central Market has been a hot spot for them to pickpocket from passengers who want to catch buses and go to their destinations or homes.
They use the huge crowd as an opportunity to pick things from people’s bags and pockets.
As the Solomon Games will commence today, the victim has called on the provincial athletes to be vigilant and sober from the sneak thieves.
The thieves are well organised and they steal for a living. Therefore, they won’t stop. Police need to step up and crack them down on hot spot areas.
