DOCTOR Elizabeth Rodgers of the Ministry of Health and Medical Service calls on the crews of all ships to vaccinate.
Dr Rodgers said this is for the safety of other crews in the ship and people in Solomon Islands.
She made the call during the Radio Talk-Back Show on Sunday.
“If you don’t vaccinate yet, please you go vaccinate now don’t take other people’s card and give it to us because that is wrong and we will find it out.
“I want to encourage everyone if you are not vaccinated please go and get vaccinated because it is for your sake not for us.
“We are already vaccinated and we are not worried now,” she said.
She said when new crews joined the fishing vessels and the logging vessels they have to present their vaccination cards.
Government through the MHMS is looking at every ship in terms of COVID-19 safety.
So, every cargo vessels, logging vessels and fishing vessels that are coming in the country MHMS is looking at them too and assessing them for COVID-19 risk.
“The ships have improved a lot because they decided themselves that the crews be vaccinated.
“So, the overseas ships come in with their new crews onboard they are fully vaccinated,” she said.
In the meantime, Dr Rodgers also urged all stevedores onboard the ships to ensure they are fully vaccinated.
“We will also look on the stevedores’ cards and when they will be due for booster doses,” she said.
