A CONCERNED citizen, who wants his name withheld, has urged responsible authorities to crack down on expired goods and rusty canned products.
The citizen made the call after discovering that the can of a canned product he bought from one of the Chinese shops in Honiara already rusted.
He told Solomon Star in an interview that interestingly the canned product date of manufacture was the same as its expiry date, which is April 2024.
“I think the canned product manufacture and expiry date labels have been tampered with for the sake of making profit from expired good.
“Therefore, I call on responsible authorities to check on all canned products in the Chinese shops as I believe there are many expired goods still on the shelves.
“Please check the expiry dates and condition of the products to ensure the products are valid for sale,” he said.
The concerned citizen said, the two bodies that should ensure shops do not sell expired or unsafe products are the Consumer Affairs Division the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labor and Immigration and the Food Safety Unit of the Honiara City Council Environmental Health Division.
This is not the first time for a customer to complain of having purchased a faulty product. There were numerous complaints made through the media by customers in the past but they seem to have fallen on deaf ears by the responsible bodies.
