MEMBER of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Ward 3 – Simbo, Western Province has requested the Gizo Dog Committee and Gizo Town Council (GTC) to continue with the stray dog culling exercise.
Gideon Tuke was speaking during last week’s Full Assembly at Imagination Island Eco-Resort in Gizo.
He said, although the culling exercise was successfully undertaken on Friday night 18thOctober, he said, there are still many stray dogs roaming around the Gizo residential areas.
Tuke, who is also spends time at Gizo said, after the exercise there are still dogs roaming around which poses security threats to members of the public.
“We need to extend the program to ensure these stray dogs are removed,” he said.
Its understood, the exercise came to a halt due to shortage of dog baits.
During the first exercise close to 150 dogs were killed on Friday night and Saturday morning.
Most of the dogs were retrieved and buried at Mile 2 on Saturday.
Since then, the exercise came to a stop.
