THERE is a need to improve radio coverage in the western part of the country.
This is because few months ago many listeners of SIBC in Choiseul Province have been unable to listen to important programs and news.
Reports reaching the paper said every villages and communities in the province hardly listens to fresh news and daily updates from the SIBC because of the poor coverage.
As a result many of the individual portable radios are lying idle on the floor because SIBC no longer able to relay its coverage in Choiseul Province.
Speaking to this paper through via a phone interview, Nerio Ulemiki from Voruvoru village who is also the MPA for Ward 12, Varisi Lavata said the cause behind the poor coverage was unknown.
“Therefore keen listeners in Choiseul are calling on SIBC management to assess the issue and fix it.”
Ulemiki said poor coverage started since October which is three months ago.
He said many keen SIBC listeners are hoping that SIBC will fix the situation.
“Many elders, and leaders out there also want to know what is going on in this country.
“So it’s a must that problem is resolved because we want to hear updates from SIBC,” he said.
He added regarding using smartphones to check on the social media uploaded on the internet, Telekom coverage for internet is also poor and most of the locals in the rural villages did not use mobile phones to update themselves with news.
“But for portable radios, yes many of us in the villages uses portable radios but at the moment, many of them are unable to get any updates.
“That’s why we want SIBC to hear us and improve its coverage so that our people can be updated on the current affairs and news in our country,” Ulemiki added.
Its understood during Monday’s motion of no confidence many of the listeners in Choiseul were unable to listen to the debates.
