PASSENGERS and Transport operators along the East road in Malaita province has called for an immediate repair of a broken bridge at Fadila in the East Kwara’ae region.
Report reaching Solomon star said the wooden bridge which link transportation service from East Malaita to Auki is now unworthy and poses danger to the travelling public and vehicle owners.
“The physical status of the wooden bridge is unworthy for public use.
“It needs urgent repair now to avoid any serious accident,” said John Sui, a regular traveller to East Malaita.
He said at this stage vehicles are forced to drive away by crossing the stream which is not uncomfortable and danger for the public at large.
“At this stage vehicles cannot drive onto the bridge because it is risky for passengers and trucks,” he added.
This paper understands that makeshift timber bridges are very popular in the east road in Malaita.
Meanwhile, other residents in east Malaita said they are anticipating the formalization of a major infrastructure development on Malaita.
“We are still waiting for the day where the roads and bridges that leads to our villages will be constructed,” Mason Tobani, a vehicle owner in Auki said.
