INDIGENOUS Chambers of Commerce, Trade and Industries for Solomon Islands (ICCTISI) calls on the government to review the Foreign Investment Act.
Parliament passed the Act in 2006 and amended it in 2008.
ICCTISI chief executive officer, Charles Dausabea said the Act is too wide and disadvantaged the indigenous business people.
“People who have money find it easy to run their businesses.
“For example the logging companies come and form bakery, run farms and employ people from overseas,” he said.
As such, Dausabea requested Immigration and Labour department to act strictly to deport people who violate the country’s law.
“In the past, if foreigners break the immigration law, police would deport the person.
“Now, foreigners who break the law are moving around in the country even if they break the law,” he added.
