Solomon Islands National University (SINU) school of nursing lacks experienced lecturers to teach community based rehabilitation.
A senior nurse from the school of nursing made a call during the SINU open day on Thursday.
He said since the community based rehabilitation (CBR) study is a diploma program which started off in2010. Due to lack of full time lecturers the administration has been engaging part time lecturers to teach the course.
“We need experience lecturers for the program to teach our students at a full time basis,” the nurse said.
“This program is very important because nurses will deal with disability people in our country. They need to have proper support and care.”
He added that wellbeing of a person with disability depends on how effectively nurses can provide medication for them at the hospital.
“Therefore the students need to learn more about their roles, responsibilities and how to provide right treatment for patient with disabilities.
“People with disabilities are quite difficult to be treated which needs support from families and nurses.”
This year about 30 students are studying for this program.
