SOME candidates in Makira-Ulawa Province claimed they received threats from supporters of other candidates.
This was confirmed by the Operation Manager of the Makira Provincial Police, Peter Sitai.
Mr Sitai said his office received several reports that some intending candidates have not been allowed to do their campaigning in certain areas in the province.
“Since last week, my office continues to receive information that some candidates have been threatened and directly confronted by supporters of other intending candidates,” Mr Sitai said.
“Some were even disallowed to do their campaigning at certain village or areas within the province”.
Mr Sitai condemned the actions and called on the Makira public to respect the intending candidates and make it a clean and free for the candidates to present themselves to their people.
