Members of St. Barnabas Provincial Cathedral of the Church Of Melanesia officially opened and blessed the Canon Desmond Probets Hall yesterday.
The building project that took just over two years to build was officially blessed by the Archbishop of the Church of Melanesia, the Most Reverend George Takeli, straight after the main 8am service at St Barnabas.
Witnessed by the congregation, including invited guests, Ministry groups, the Clergy and Laity, St Nicholas College students and representatives from other churches, the colourful ceremony ended with feasting in the new Canon Desmond Probets Hall.
In congratulating the Dean and St Barnabas Cathedral Staff and church members, the Archbishop George Takeli said they had set a good example for other churches to follow.
“This building project is one where we don’t need a report to see the progress, as we can see the project taking shape right before our eyes”.
Headed by the Dean of St. Barnabas, the Very Reverend Davidson Nwaeramo, the project was successfully conducted and completed purely through people’s generous contributions and supported by the Church.
The opening of the Probet’s Hall also closed a chapter for the Dean, the Very Reverend Davidson Nwaeramo, who after eight and a half years at St Barnabas, will be leaving at the end of 2017.
Government MPs, Private Business Owners, the Chapter and Councillors of St Barnabas, Church Ministry Groups, Religious groups and St Barnabas congregants turned up to witness the grand opening and blessing of the hall and also bid farewell to the Dean and his family.
Canon Desmond Probets hall houses several Church Ministries’ offices.
It will be used for Church programs and is also available for workshops and conferences, wedding receptions and other activities.
