THE caretaker Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has acknowledged the Fiji Military contingent serving in Honiara under Solomon International Assistance Force (SIAF) for their active community engagements.
PM Sogavare made the acknowledgement to the Republic of Fiji Military Force (RFMF)contingent commander Colonel Sake Baka in a courtesy call initiated by the latter.
PM Sogavare encouraged the Fiji military to continue with the ‘fine’ job of working with communities.
The caretaker Prime Minister also acknowledged the positive changes in communities such as Burnscreek where criminal activities have been somewhat absent since RFMF has taken an active role in engaging with the community.
He stressed that these positive changes displayed that community relations and engagements are effective tools in bringing about aspired changes.
RFMF is party to the Solomon International Assistance Force (SIAF) who are here to continue with security assistance to the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) ahead of the National General Election in April of this year.
Colonel Baka is the contingent commander of the RFMF and he made the courtesy call purposely to inform the caretaker Prime Minister about a number of activities the RFMF has engaged in during the festive season.
The colonel highlighted sporting activities at Gilbert Camp and a general cleaning up service at Burnscreek at the New Year.
Colonel Baka emphasized that RFMF employed a non-combative approach to community policing and places high emphasis on building community relationships and unity.
